Inclusion/Diversity Policy – Earl Grey Children’s Centre Winnipeg

We are an inclusive, diverse centre
We teach respecting others no matter what they look like or how they dress…..we teach kindness.
We have families here who have transgender family members, children who have many different family people who identify differently than you do.
Part of our curriculum is diversity… we read books about colors, shapes indigenous, families, different cultures and talk about age appropriate discussions in whatever book we read.
All our books, activities toys are age appropriate in all our classrooms.
We allow children the opportunity to decide for themselves what toys they want to play with, what color they like and what clothes they want to wear. There are no boy colors or girl colors, just colors. “What color do you like we would ask them?”
There is no” learning session” we just read and talk about being kind and respectful of how they may feel, what they may like or who their family consists of. We provide materials for children choose.
We want to include children in our program that may have a family different from ours to feel just as valued and just and respected as anyone.
Age appropriate books and questions are answered in general terms at an age appropriate level.
We don’t make a big deal of it and children chose the books, toys, clothing, colors etc they want with no judgement.
We are diverse and inclusive. If your child comes home to talk about a specific book or activity you have the ability to share your families beliefs while also teaching that even if it is something your family does not believe in we still need to respect others and be kind.
All our materials are approved by the office and encouraged by Early Learning and Childcare in Manitoba.
